Who we are and what we do
The Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors represents the chiropractic profession in Alberta. We are committed to protecting the public, ensuring accountability and improving Albertans' health and well-being. We represent the interests of the registered members within Alberta's legislative framework. We recognize that self-regulation is a privilege granted in the public interest and for the public good. We are committed to governing in a manner that respects this privilege.
The ACAC has two separate roles:
a regulatory body and a professional association.
Regulatory College
The college is responsible for protecting public interest, establishing and enforcing high standards of practice and ensuring licensed Alberta chiropractors provide high quality health care. We develop and set standards of practice to assist chiropractors in delivering safe, effective and ethical care.
The ACAC's regulatory authority is derived from provincial legislation called the Health Professions Act (HPA). We protect the public and patients in accordance with this legislation by:
- Registering and licensing Alberta chiropractors to ensure only qualified and competent chiropractors are registered to practice in Alberta
- Establishing, monitoring and enforcing professional and clinical standards to ensure delivery of safe, effective and ethical chiropractic care
- Investigating and resolving complaints, and where necessary, disciplining members
- Ensuring registered chiropractors maintain their knowledge and clinical skills through a mandatory continuing competency program
Professional Association
Our association activities are committed to promoting the art and science of chiropractic, as well as its valued role within Alberta's health care system. We are dedicated to helping Albertans live healthier lives by:
- Promoting the effectiveness and benefits of chiropractic care
- Providing information and materials to increase awareness and knowledge of chiropractic and general good health
- Sponsoring and facilitating chiropractic research
We also provide member programs and help advance the profession at the government, regulatory and public levels. If you have any questions about the ACAC, please contact us.
