Chiropractic Standards of Practice
Standards of practice are part of the regulatory framework within which members practice chiropractic in Alberta. Members identified as non-compliant in these standards are subject to investigation and discipline as prescribed by legislation.
Standards of Practice outline appropriate parameters for chiropractors to practice. They relate to:
- Advertising/Marketing
- Billing - patients and insurance
- Mandatory Practice Requirements - liability protection, laser registration
- Patient Communication - informed consent, treatment recommendations, disclosure of harm
- Patient Dignity - open treatment rooms, patient preparation
- Patient Files and Records - file/record requirements, ownership of files
- Personal Conduct - sexual misconduct, sexual abuse
- Scope of Practice - radiography of kids, ordering diagnostic imaging, intimate exams, acupuncture, setting fractures, treating animals, ethics research review
