Living with low back pain? You may be eligible to receive free chiropractic care.
The Low Back on Track Pilot Program helps eligible patients access publicly funded chiropractic care through a collaborative healthcare model. If you’re interested in participating, the first step is talking to your Red Deer Primary Care Network (PCN) provider about the program and requesting a referral.
Eligible participants can receive up to eight chiropractic visits at no cost.
How the Program Works
Ask your primary care provider for a referral to the Low Back on Track Pilot Program.
The Low Back on Track pilot program offers funded chiropractic care to eligible adults dealing with low back pain impacting their daily lives. The program provides up to eight visits over 90 days at no cost.
Chiropractors use a drug-free, evidence-based approach to reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term recovery. Participants may also be invited to complete optional questionnaires to help evaluate the program’s impact.

Is This Pilot Program Right for You?
You may be eligible to receive care if:
- You have low back pain affecting your daily activities
- You don’t have chiropractic coverage through extended health benefits (like Alberta Blue Cross Seniors Benefit), or you’ve already exhausted them
- You’re not getting care or compensation through claims with Workers' Compensation (WCB) or because of a motor vehicle accident
- You have not seen a chiropractor in the last 30 days
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You can get a referral from a healthcare provider in the Calgary Foothills or Red Deer Primary Care Networks
- You can speak, read, and write in English, have a working email address and internet access
Don’t live within the Calgary Foothills or Red Deer Primary Care Networks?
To be eligible for the program you do not need to reside within the participating PCN’s geographic catchment area. However, your referral and chiropractic care must be provided through a participating clinic and healthcare provider within the program’s Primary Care Networks.

Please note: You do not need to contact these clinics directly. Once your referral has been received, the participating clinic will contact you to arrange your appointment.

Yes, patients must receive a referral from a participating primary care provider within the Calgary Foothills or Red Deer Primary Care Networks.
Once you have obtained a referral from your primary care provider, the chiropractor will conduct an eligibility assessment to better understand your medical history and treatment goals. Based on this assessment and the program criteria, they will determine your eligibility for care.

You do not need to reside within the participating PCN’s geographic catchment area. However, your referral and chiropractic care must be provided through a participating clinic and primary care provider within the program’s PCN network.
Eligible services provided through the program are publicly funded, meaning there is no additional out-of-pocket cost.
Eligible patients are able to receive one intake visit and seven follow-up visits at no cost based on the treatment plan created by the chiropractor.
Ask your primary care provider if they are participating in the Low Back on Track Pilot Program. You can also discover participating PCNs and chiropractic clinics through the information provided above.
During your intake visit, your chiropractor will discuss the evaluation component of the pilot program in detail. Participation in the evaluation portion is optional for all eligible patients.
The program will continue until government funding has been exhausted or a minimum of 350 patients have participated. Once either milestone has been reached, the evaluation study will help inform future applications for government funding to sustain the initiative.
If you do not have a primary care provider, you can visit a participating walk-in clinic within the Calgary Foothills or Red Deer Primary Care Networks. A physician or other eligible healthcare provider can assess your low back pain and determine whether a referral to the program is appropriate.
