Keeping you in the game

fitness health

Eager to get out on the green and perfect your swing? For avid golfers who want to make the most of the season, here are some simple tips to not only help improve your game, but also help you stay pain and injury free.

  • Always warm up with a few minutes of aerobic activity, such as brisk walking.
  • Stretch the muscles in your back, abdomen, legs and shoulders before your game.
  • When lifting your golf bag, bend your knees and lift using your legs, not your back.
  • Make sure your clubs are the right length for you so you don’t have to bend or overextend your back.
  • Wear soft spikes on your shoes for greater cushioning and shock absorption.
  • Use a cart rather than carrying your clubs.
  • Occasionally swing in the opposite direction to balance the stress on the muscles in your back.
  • Bend your knees and use a golf club for support when stooping to retrieve a ball.
  • Always stretch to cool down after finishing a golf game.
  • Take some refresher lessons to make sure you still have the right swing of things.

“If you experience pain during or following your game, seek treatment,” says Dr. Brian Gushaty, Edmonton chiropractor. “The longer an injury is allowed to linger the more difficult and longer the healing process.”

Chiropractors are back care experts an can help with treatment of back pain, injury and related conditions. They can also provide advice and exercises to help get you in the game and help you stay in the game.
