Last month, with the support of the CAA, Drs. Gerard and Angie Dower, brought that mindset to the 2026 Pickleball Canada National Championship in Toronto, competing against the top athletes across Canada and the United States. As Canada's premier national pickleball competition, the tournament provides players with an opportunity to test their skills, gain valuable experience, and compete at the highest level of the sport.

The final week of August delivered high-calibre competition, learning opportunities, and memorable moments. Among the highlights was a silver-medal finish for Team Alberta’s men's doubles for Dr. Gerard Dower and his doubles partner, an outstanding achievement in a highly competitive field.
While medals are a meaningful recognition of success, the true value of competition often lies in the journey. What started out as a new hobby and opportunity to spend more time together, evolved into a pursuit of continuous improvement and national-level competition. Along the way, the Dowers embraces every opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow, qualities that closely mirror the professional mindset required in clinical practice.
As regulated health-care professionals, chiropractors understand that progress is built through consistent effort over time. Whether developing clinical expertise, supporting patient outcomes, or pursuing personal interests, progress is built through consistent effort over time. The Dowers' experience at Nationals reflects that same approach, embracing challenges, learning from each opportunity, and continuing to build toward future goals.
Of course, competition is about more than performance. It's also about connection, community, and enjoyment. Participation in sport reminds us of the many benefits of staying active throughout life, while fostering relationships and supporting overall well-being. As movement experts, chiropractors recognize the important role physical activity and recreation play in helping Albertans maintain healthy, active lifestyles.
While the Dowers return home from Toronto with a silver medal, they also bring back invaluable experience, new perspectives, and renewed motivation for the season ahead. Their story is a reminder that success is not defined solely by the outcome, but by the commitment to keep learning, improving, and showing up for the challenge.
On behalf of the CAA, congratulations to Drs. Gerard and Angie Dower for their outstanding performance and for representing the Association and Alberta with dedication, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. We look forward to following their continued journey, both on and off the court.
