Beyond Renewal: Making Your CAA Membership Work
It’s easy to think of membership as something tied to an annual to-do item. In reality, your membership at the Chiropractic Association of Alberta is working continuously to advance the profession, support your practice, and strengthen patient care across Alberta.
This work shapes the conditions you practice in and how patients access care, how your role is understood, and how sustainable your clinic can be over time.
Since its formation in December 2021, the Association has focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for members. The Association was created to represent Alberta chiropractors in all aspects to ensure chiropractic care is recognized within team-based healthcare throughout the province.
Advancing your role in Alberta’s healthcare system
Advocacy is one of the most important ways CAA delivers value to you. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, its impact is direct and measurable. It influences how patients move through the healthcare system and where you fit within it.
Our goal is to make chiropractic care synonymous with trust, innovation, and leaders in primary care across the province. To achieve this, we actively engage key stakeholders and expand our presence in the conversations and decision-making spaces where policy is shaped.
For example:
In October 2022, the AHCIP reinstated publicly funded chiropractor-referred diagnostic imaging as a result of the CAA’s relentless engagement in evidence-based advocacy and public engagement. This resulted in improving patient access to timely care and more streamlined track to recovery.
Shortly after in March 2023, chiropractors were formally recognized as primary care providers in Alberta’s MAPS report, reinforcing your role within interdisciplinary teams and strengthening how the profession is understood across the healthcare system.
In November, 2024 CAA successfully negotiated the first WCB chiropractic rate increase since 2014, alongside expanded billing opportunities. This outcome supported the alignment of compensation with care you provide and supports the long-term sustainability of your practice.
These milestones represent coordinated advocacy efforts designed to elevate chiropractic as an essential part of musculoskeletal care in Alberta.
Investing in innovation and patient care
CAA continues to invest in programs and partnerships that improve patient outcomes and modernize care delivery, ensuring that chiropractic care evolves alongside the broader healthcare system.
In July 2024, the SelfBack pilot launched in partnership with the University of Alberta, introducing an AI-supported tool to help patients manage low back pain. Building on this momentum, February 2026 marked the launch of Canada’s first implementation of the Chiropractic Patient Incident Reporting and Learning System (CPiRLS), aimed at advancing quality improvement and reinforcing a strong culture of safety across the profession.
Most recently, in March 2026, the Low Back on Track pilot marked the return of publicly funded chiropractic care in Alberta after 17 years. This initiative is designed to showcase a practical model for publicly funded chiropractic care and its integration into Alberta’s healthcare system. By making chiropractic services available at no-cost, it helps Albertans who might otherwise face barriers to accessing care. Participation in the pilot is exclusive to members of the association and is currently underway in the Calgary Foothills and Red Deer Primary Care Networks. Growing awareness and demand
Alongside advocacy and program development, CAA is actively increasing public awareness of chiropractic care across the province. Chiropractors have the ability to improve the quality of life for many, so it’s important they are seen where it matters most.
Our strategic marketing initiatives, span from all channels, from digital ads, highway billboards to even NHL partnership activations with the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, the association is making every effort to make chiropractic impossible to ignore.
This work helps ensure that when individuals experience MSK related issues, chiropractic care is top of mind. It also builds familiarity and trust before patients ever walk into your clinic. Over time, this increased awareness contributes to stronger demand, more informed patients, and a clearer understanding of the role you play in their care journey.
